iterato has completed the Ready Stage of Northeastern University’s IDEA accelerator and been admitted into the Set Stage — a milestone that reflects months of disciplined customer discovery work across the research university compliance landscape.
The Ready Stage asked a simple but demanding question: is there a real, painful, and recurring problem here? For Iterato, the answer came directly from the people who live with it every day. Since 2014, NIH has required Individual Development Plans (IDPs) for federally funded PhD students and postdocs under RPPR Section B.4. In 2024, NSF extended a similar mandate to its own trainees. Yet the tools available to institutions — spreadsheets, Canvas forms, and Word docs— were never built to satisfy an institutional compliance requirement.
the iterato team conducted dozens of structured interviews. What emerged was consistent - a solution that is needed and adapted to the needs of current trainees and students.
“The Ready Stage forces you to earn the right to build something,” said the founding team. “Every conversation sharpened our understanding of who actually owns this problem — and it isn’t the student. It’s the institution.”
With that validation in hand, iterato now moves into the Set Stage, where the focus shifts to business model design and financial planning under the mentorship of advisors and entrepreneurs within Northeastern’s IDEA program.
